Owner Chad Furlong tells What Now San Diego that after many trips to Hawaii, his family was inspired to bring the aloha spirit to San Diego. Mahalo Shave Ice serves authentic Hawaiian-style shave ice snow cones, Dole Whip, and acai bowls.

“We do things simple but do it right,” explains Furlong. “We also created the Dole Bowl. An acai-bowl style with fresh fruit over Dole Whip. We use a Dole Whip machine so the product is exactly what you expect.”

Their brand motto is, “Proudly and lovingly crafted with cane sugar and ocean-friendly utensils.” Passionate about being ocean-friendly, Mahalo Shave Ice is plastic-free. Their products are served in plant-fiber bowls, with straws and spoons that are fully compostable.

Mahalo Shave Ice gives back by contributing to the non-profit organization called the Buena Onda Project. The project is dedicated to the construction of a childcare center for single moms working in the agricultural community of the Punta Colonet region of Baja, Mexico. Furlong’s young daughter, adopted from Punta Colonet, inspired the mission to assist and empower working women in Mexico with free childcare.

Mahalo Shave Ice is expected to open in January 2022. Check out their Website to catch a peek at their menu and follow on Instagram for updates and opening day announcements.
