Owner Spencer Avery-Santos Hunter tells What Now San Diego the first phase of planning at the Barrio Logan site is to set up a space for Lia’s Lumpia. The lumpia food truck will temporarily sell in a takeout only capacity from the front yard starting next month. Future plans include placing a prefabricated house or shipping container in the backyard for Lia’s Lumpia to call their permanent home. Hunter describes this as the to-go shop, complete with communal seating and a backyard bbq vibe.

The house itself will be transformed into Milagros, a casual fine dining concept which will serve modern Filipino cuisine. Named after Hunter’s grandmother Milagros, which translates to Miracle. Hunter now follows in the footsteps of Milagros, who was a restaurant owner herself in National City.

Lia’s Lumpia has made its name in San Diego participating in various local festivals, has a regular schedule of service at local breweries, and has even competed on the Food Network show The Great Food Truck Race.

The introduction of the to-go shop in Barrio Logan will allow Lia’s Lumpia to expand their menu of offerings. “The to-go shop menu will serve classic flavors you regularly see at the food truck. Our full menu is 75 flavors but we’ll offer a dozen options daily and the Lumpia of the Month. Every time you come, there will be something new to try,” shares Hunter.

Classic flavors mentioned include Chicken Adobo, Mac and Cheese, and Fried Pickle Lumpia among others. More menu plans include expanding their wing menu, adding tacos like the Chicken Adobo and Pork Belly Sisig Tacos, and a Filipino Smash Burger.

Hunter’s wheelhouse is in sustainability and he plans to add more sustainable and low-waste options into the business plan as he builds out the new site. Hunter already uses services to recycle oil and eco-friendly packaging but will also explore solar panels and a fleet of electric vehicles to be used for in-house delivery service.

Lia’s Lumpia is expected to begin service at the Barrio Logan site in November 2022. Until then, you can find their weekly service schedule on their Instagram page. Lia’s Lumpia’s will be participating in Chew the Scene on October 11th, serving through football season at Snapdragon Stadium, and at Jamul Casino’s Emerald Restaurant.

Milagros is expected to open in Spring 2023. You can find Milagros: Modern Filipino on Instagram.
