Owner Kimberly Aguirre tells What Now San Diego the business was born during the pandemic, as she took to the kitchen to invent a guilt-free food that wouldn’t detract from her and her husband’s goals to shed that pesky “Quarantine 15.”

The food blogger and mom of five created Doatnuts™️, made from steel cut oats and a minimal list of natural ingredients. The result is a low-calorie, sugar-free treat in flavors like Churro and Red Velvet.

The healthy take on the familiar snack took off and soon she was operating out of a commercial kitchen, making Doatnuts to sell to her community of gym-goers in North County and beyond.

“They’re not just for gym enthusiasts, we have customers who are Diabetic or are on sugar-free diets and are trying to live a healthier lifestyle,” explains Aguirre. A self-taught baker in her own right, since Doatnuts has been so well received in the local community Aguirre has been unable to meet regular demand. “People have to wait to buy when I’m selling at pop-ups, so the new shop will be a place where I can bake, fulfill shipping orders, and customers can come in daily to buy fresh-baked goods,” Aguirre says.

If you’re looking to indulge while staying on track with your fitness or weight-loss goals, Doatnuts by Kimy Gets Skinny is expected to open in April 2022. For now you can grab some Doatnuts at various pop-up events around Southern California, check out their Website for more information and follow on Instagram.
