Owner Michael Jimenez established the water sport company in 2018, serving the bayfront with kayak rentals, stand-up paddle boards, and even jet skis. The concept for Kayak Cafe came about when Jimenez realized there were no nearby shops for people to stop at while they were out and about, enjoying the waterfront.

After acquiring an ice cream cart years ago, Jimenez decided to use time during the winter months to revamp the cart into a new revenue stream.

Kayak Cafe will soon accompany CV Water Sports and serve locals and waterfront regulars with coffee from Grindhouse in Chula Vista. Jimenez is interested in sourcing pastries through local bakeries and continuing to build connections with Chula Vista businesses. They’ll serve pour-over style coffee, keeping a simple menu that focuses on high-quality roasts while you’re immersed in the beauty of the area.

Jimenez approaches the new food service operation with as much care and caution as he takes on the water. “We’re currently in the process of getting proper permits through the county health department, I want to be compliant just like all of my businesses. Health and safety transfer over to the cafe, just like I treat my clients when they rent kayaks. I give them a lesson on land before sending them out on the water,” explains Jimenez.

Kayak Cafe is anticipating a debut in February, pending all approvals.  Follow them on Instagram for progress on the mobile coffee cart. To get out on the water with CV Water Sports, visit their Website or Facebook for more information.
