The National City planning commission has approved a Conditional Use Permit for In-N-Out Burger to construct a new location on East Plaza Boulevard near the 805 freeway, as reported by The Star News. The fast food chain is expected to demolish the former building that housed the Family House of Pancakes restaurant which closed at the start of the year.
Local residents and council members shared their apprehension surrounding topics like traffic congestion, unhealthy dietary habits, air quality, and potential landscaping plans in their September and October public sessions.
The new In-N-Out is to be built on the 1.3 acre property and to include a 3,879-square-foot restaurant with two drive-thru lanes. In-N-Out received push back on their drive-thru plans but it was ultimately a deal breaker item for the company’s National City outpost and the committee agreed to approve.
