Hot Dog on a Stick will soon reclaim their spot as a shopping mall favorite when they head to Parkway Plaza Mall in El Cajon this year. This will be the second location of the nostalgic corn dog chain in the area.
The Hot Dog on a Stick brand was acquired by Global Franchise Group in 2014 with plans to expand across the US. In 2021, Global Franchise Group was acquired by FAT Brands, Inc. which owns 17 restaurant brands including Round Table Pizza, Fatburger, Marble Slab Creamery, Johnny Rockets, and more.
Franchise Owner Kevin Marin tells What Now San Diego is coming full circle with the new El Cajon location as he first fell in love with the brand while visiting this same mall many years ago. As a former resident of Lemon Grove and later a corporate employee for Global Franchise Group, Marin went on to open Hot Dog on a Stick at Otay Ranch Mall in Chula Vista in 2019.
“We wanted to grow our footprint, specifically in the San Diego area. There’s such a demand and love for the brand in the area and we had an opportunity to head back to Parkway Plaza Mall,” explains Marin.
Marin assures us nothing much has changed since we last saw Hot Dog on a Stick. From the brightly colored uniforms to the hand-dipped corn dogs and hand-stomped lemonade, the brand is rooted in tradition. The Parkway Plaza location will serve a straightforward menu of corn dogs in beef, veggie, or cheese, plus french fries, lemonade, and funnel cake sticks.
