Founded in China in 2006, Happy Lemon have opened over 1500 locations worldwide with rapid growth in the US. Their San Diego expansion began with bright and friendly tea shops in Convoy, Eastlake, and Del Mar. They’ve since popped up at UTC Mall and Plaza Bonita this year.

Owner Jack Wang has led the San Diego franchise expansion and tells What Now San Diego, “San Marcos is the sixth store to open in a three-year period.” In order to widen awareness, Wang is leading Happy Lemon further North. “Boba is a saturated market, so we’d like to go into different areas of San Diego in order to expose people to Boba Tea. That’s what we initially planned in 2019 with Del Mar Highlands. San Marcos is a new audience for us,” Wang explains.

Happy Lemon’s specialty is the trending cheese tea, which they helped introduce to boba enthusiasts. Their menu boasts many classic milk teas plus herbal teas with freshly-squeezed lemon, blended smoothies, and fruit teas topped with salted cheese. To accompany their various beverages, you can also grab a bubble waffle to snack on.

Happy Lemon San Marcos is expected to open Summer 2022. Follow Happy Lemon San Diego on Instagram for updates and specials.
