When you visit the Tacos El Cabrón website, you’re immediately greeted with a postcard welcoming you to “the original, authentic Mexican experience on this side of the border.” Tacos El Cabrón, established in 2017 and located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, provides downtown San Diego with authentic Mexican Street Tacos. The casual, hip spot serves up tacos, burritos, carne asada fries, beer, and much more.

As if that isn’t enough, the Taco joint boasts developing “a reputation for having one of the best Adobada and Spicy Shrimp tacos in all of San Diego,” Now, owner Jean-Paul Rojo, plans to open a second restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter—but this one will be a little different.

El Cabrón Mexican Restaurant and Lounge will take over the space formerly occupied by Double Black. It’s about a block south from Rojo’s first restaurant and will provide downtown San Diego with an expanded menu, including fresh seafood platters and ceviches, as well as tacos, burritos, and smothered nachos. But that’s still not all…

Come evening and once the last diners have finished their meals, El Cabrón will transform from a restaurant to a full-service Bar and Lounge, with goals of being a nightlife destination on weekends. The lounge will offer a list of craft cocktails and DJ music. Delicious food, craft cocktails, and great music? I’m sold.

El Cabrón Mexican Restaurant and Lounge is set to open this August at 534 5th Avenue in San Diego.
