Two former employees of Ballast Point, Aaron Justus and Brandon Green, who met on the packaging line, will open their own small, independent craft brewery on Park Blvd. come the end of the year. According to a press release Justus shared with What Now San Diego, emphasis for these new brews will be on creativity with “carefully sourced wholesome ingredients to brew the highest quality beer while minimizing environmental impact.”

Justus and Green believe in the adage ‘you are what you eat,’ so it’s “imperative [to] source the highest quality, most wholesome ingredients, using organic whenever possible.” The beers will be artificial flavors-free, and won’t contain any animal-based products or GMO.

East Village Brewing will combine Justus’ “vast knowledge of raw materials and industry connections” with Green’s passion for brewing.

The brewery will open at 201 Park Blvd, Ste 101 in San Diego. Justus wrote in an email to What Now San Diego, that while it’s too early to provide an opening date, the team hopes for a December opening.

The pair are excited to grow their brewery in the East Village neighborhood and look forward “to inspiring, and being inspired by, the brewing community which we love.”
