Choi’s Korean is confirmed to join the Park 12 development across the street from Petco Park. According to commercial real estate company Flocke & Avoyer, they’ve signed a lease for a 4,321 square foot space with an additional 1,000 square foot outdoor space to seat 40 more customers. The development continues to bring in fresh retail and restaurant options in an effort to replenish this section of the East Village.
Owner Jiwoo Choi tells What Now San Diego he comes from South Korea and is excited to bring a bit of Korean culture to his new home city of San Diego. Choi’s Korean is the first brand for the parent company, Choi’s LLC.
The menu at Choi’s Korean will have something for everyone. Choi explains, “Korean Fried Chicken goes perfectly with beer, it would be a great celebratory meal after a Padres game. For the lunch crowd, our Bibimbap is a healthy choice, full of vegetables. We’re ready to serve diverse groups, from the local residents to people working in the area.”
To pair with their classic Korean dishes, we can also expect an assortment of alcoholic beverages like Soju-based cocktails and Makgeolli, another popular Korean alcoholic drink. “We want to fit in with San Diego culture but we also don’t want to lose our Korean culture, so we’re planning to mix the two. We’ll have local beers on draft and sell authentic beer from Korea,” says Choi.
The restaurant will join a growing list of new spots at Park 12 like Carmelita’s Kitchen and East Village Brewing, both coming soon. Plus Achilles Coffee Roasters and Holy Matcha, which are open now.
Choi’s Korean is in its initial stages of design and is projected to open by December 2022. Choi hopes their opening will mark a celebration of the end of the year and will welcome good things to come in 2023. Choi’s Korean is now on Instagram, give them a follow for more information and updates.
